Pathologic is Genius, And Here's Why

Pathologic is Genius, And Here's Why

This 2-hour long video essay by hbomberguy has since its release in 2019 become a standard in my video rotation and once got me through a very long night of packing for a trip. So now that I am once again deep in packing hell; I of course watched it again. ... There's very little I enjoy as much as hearing people talk about things they love, and Harry does it with so much nuance and passion I swear it gives me a better outlook on life. It also reminds me that I still haven't played pathological 2. I should really get to that.

Birdsong (CalArts Film 2022)

Yes, I know, I know, another CalArts short film recommendation. What can I say, other than I'm a sucker for a good animated short film; it’s just how I was raised (and by raised, I mean educated)

Dimension 20: The Ravening War

The Ravening War

When Dimension 20s prequel to A Crown of Candy: The Ravening War came out in June 2023 I was on pause with my Dropout subscription. And the general lack lustre reception to the side quest meant I just didn't get around to watching it until this week. ...

For those uninitiated, Dimension 20 is a Dungeon & Dragon show hosted and produced by Dropout, with the incredible Brennan Lee Mulligan as the resident game master. Whom, for this side quest series, handed over his world of A Crown of Candy and his GM seat to Matt Mercer of Critical Role fame.

While I can sympathize with some of the criticism levelled against the series, and while I too wasn't initially pulled in by the first episode. The Ravening War proved a slow but steady burn for me.

The cast of this series is a star-studded dream team that, in my opinion, play off each other's humour exceptionally well. The character choices made from all fronts are both interesting and believable.

If you're like me and has discounted the series in the past due to mixed reviews. This is my sincerest encouragement for you to give it a watch; especially if you're interested in the world of A Crown of Candy.
